The Slums

Saturday morning we had the privilege to take some clothes to the Slums behind Payap University. While there we had the chance to play with some of the kids! We played Duck Duck Goose but standing up!
It was such a great experience, most of Chiang Mai that we have seen, the people are dressed very nice and live in nice homes. This was the first time we saw children who did not have underwear on but either just a shirt or shorts with no underwear underneath because they could not afford those. Their houses have no doors and flies are everywhere. The place was covered in mud and it was just so incredible to think that people live there and are thankful for that house.

It was such a humbling experience and definitely put perspective on things. We are all looking forward to going back so that we can share the love of Christ with those families, the kids really enjoyed playing with us and had so much pure joy in their hearts. Most of the kids do not speak Thai and definitely do not speak English but it was so great to learn that we do not need to speak words to have a great time together! God really worked through the language barrier and showed us that we can share love through games and laughter and it was such an amazing experience!

Sports Camp

Last weekend a group from Baan Kanoon attended a Thai sports camp at Grace International School which is the school that most of the M family's kids in Chiang Mai go.

This was our group doing bible study!

I was on the purple team and had an awesome time loving on the kids! It's so great to know that even though we can barely communicate, through our actions we can demonstrate the love of Christ! One of the leader's of the camp gave a great bible lesson in Thai, I only understand the message through his demonstrations but it was so phenomenal.

Kids swimming in the pool.
He taught the kids that if we are very good people but do just one thing wrong, it's like putting fish sauce in a bottle of water, even with just one tiny drop of sauce, no one would want to drink the water. The only way to make the water clean again is to pour it out and start over now and the only way we can do that is through Christ Jesus our Lord! What truth these kids are being fed! It was such an awesome experience and I had so much fun playing games and enjoying my time with my group!

Phan Ton

Phan Ton was the village Amy and I visited with some of our Thai friends and one of the journeymen here in Chiang Mai! We taught a Bible story and had the privilege of prayer walking the village after the story. We told the story of Joseph, I read the story in English while my Thai friend Kratae translated for me! Then we wrote down some of the tough words and the kids wrote them in their notebooks. After that, Amy taught them how to pronounce the words and what each one meant. Then the kids had a blast because we reread the story and they got to act it out! They LOVED it! They were so precious! God is really starting to move in that village, we have only had people teaching there less than 2 months. Prayer walking the village was so powerful and you could feel God's presence among the people, what a beautiful thing to witness!

I taught my first English class last night and I had 2 girls attend. They were so great and they took me out for this sweet break and strawberry milk after! We had some great conversation and they want to take me out and show me some good places to eat and they can't wait to come to class next week! It's so great to see the relationships God is starting to form! I hope all is well with you guys and you recognize God's movement! I love you all and thank you so much for your support and prayers!

Thai Church!

So this is a little long but I encourage you to read it all! I want to start off by saying that God is really moving in this place. Yesterday I had the privilege of going to Pii Sun’s home church. It was just so great to listen to them worship in Thai. Last night around 5pm here, Baan Kanoon holds a worship service and the girls and I all went to it together. Everything was in Thai and it just felt so great to listen to these people worship the same God in a different language. You could feel their love for Christ being poured out through their praise and it was so incredible to witness. Then Pii Oom shared the Word with us and Pii Sun was sitting next to me and translated for me. Although I only got a summarized version of what he was saying, I learned so much. These people have a deep desire to know God more and it is such a beautiful thing.

Last night the Word came out of Mark 2 and 3. First we discussed how Jesus did not come to call the righteous but the sinners, the beautiful thing about this was that at the end of the night one of the young women who had recently come to faith explained how her sister, who is very involved at Baan Kanoon, told her that God wanted her to be His child because she was a sinner. She had felt that she was too bad because she had been Buddhist and worshiping other Gods and that God did not want her. But Saa (her sister) explained that is was because she was a sinner that Jesus wanted her in His kingdom. What a beautiful word from such a young believer!

We went on to discuss how God changes people from the inside out. A believer does not cover the old with the new but gets rid of the old to let in the new. The whole sermon was such a great word. One of the last things that really hit me was that we were made to love the people that are not lovely! I just loved the way he put it. I was just so filled with joy! How blessed I was to witness people worshiping and learning about the same God but in a different language. How great is our God that He proclaims His word to all nations! I just loved sharing in that experience with these Thai people! Thanks for all your prayers, they are really working! I love you all!

Saa wad dee ka!

Saa wad dee ka means hello in Thai! Well I wrote a long blog but it looks like it didn't post! I don't have much time now but basically, things are going great just pretty tired. We had orientation today and found out more about what will be doing this summer. I will have to write more later because I am so tired but things are going really good and I'm super excited to see what God will do! Tonight at dinner we had the chance to share the gospel with a young man from Canada who is visiting Thailand and it was so great to plant a seed. Please be praying for strength! We learned a lot of information today and it was a little overwhelming but I trust God and I know He has me in the palm of His hand! Love you all and ka pun ka (thanks) for following!

Saa wad dee ka (also means goodbye!)

Airport!

Well I am in my 3rd airport for the day! I started off in the San Antonio Airport at 7 am and then went to Dallas to meet my other ladies and now we are in LAX! We have been here almost 5 hours! Only 2 more hours until we board our plane! So far it has been quite an adventure, we have been in and out of security multiple times and are finally just sitting and waiting for our flight!

The girls and I have been getting to know each other and it has been so great to spend the day together! I will be on the next flight for 16.5 hours and we will all be sitting next to one another which is so awesome! We have 3 more flights until we actually get to our destination but we are on our way! I will post as soon as I am able to when I get to Thailand! I am so excited to see how God will work.

It's so crazy to think about the people I sat with on the plane and the conversations we had about the ways God works! How awesome that on my first flight the man I was sitting by, his wife is from Thailand! She was born and raised there for 17 years before she moved to America! How awesome is our God?! Well I'm going to get going but I hope to blog as soon as I get some internet in Thailand! Love you all and please pray for safety and our conversations on the flight!
